What has life taught me so far???

I may be only 20 years into my life. But already I have learnt so much about myself and about life itself. They say you learn something new every day. And I can wholeheartedly say that saying is so true.

So here it is my list into the things that life has taught me so far which I hope you can relate to.

Number 1: Not everyone is going to like you. Now when I was little I was always that child who wanted to play with everyone and keep people company. The older I have gotten the more I’ve learnt that no matter how hard try and fit in and pour your heart and soul into any sort of relationship not everyone will be on the same page as you.

Number 2: People and circumstances change and that’s okay. Now as I’ve mentioned previously I get very anxious and scared of change. But again as I’ve gotten older I’ve learnt that change allows for better things to come along. Whether that be a new opportunity or a new relationship. But change also allows growth to become a stronger, happier and better person. So when change occurs don’t fight it ride with it.

Number 3: Never beg or chase anyone to stay in your life. Now I’ve fallen into this trap several times. But as time has passed I’ve learnt to not listen to people’s words of how special and amazing I supposedly am. Instead I watch their actions. As the old saying goes actions speak louder than words. If someone wants to be a part of your life they will make the effort. People come and go from your life to which I mentioned previously for better people to come along. Be it a lover or friend.

Number 4: Let go of what’s gone, be thankful for what remains. Sometimes in life we do more harm to ourselves holding on than letting go. Now personally I find it hard to let go. When my first proper relationship broke up I refused to accept it at first. But I realised that I needed to let go of that person to save myself from going into a very deep hole which would subsequently effect my health and well being. It’s not being selfish it’s called self respect and care.

Number 5: Time is the best healer. Losing someone as a result of a break up in a friendship/ relationship or the person passing away is the biggest challenge the world can throw at you. Initially at first you can’t seem to go on with a massive hole in your heart. But as time goes on you adapt to live without that person in your life. I’ve been through many loved ones in my family passing away and also a good friend of mine dying at just 11 years old. I knew full well they wouldn’t want me to cry over them and be sad. They would want me to live my life and do things in their memory and make them proud. People that have stopped giving me effort and being with me however. I don’t see the point in getting upset over someone who in reality wasn’t down for me at all. End of the day it’s their loss.

Number 6: Be yourself and just do you. When I was little I didn’t give a flying monkeys what people thought of me. But then a thing called bullying happened to me and I felt like my metaphorical armour had been broken. Again as I’ve gotten older I’m slowly reverting back to that girl who doesn’t care what people think. As the saying goes the first steps to a happier life is learning to love yourself first. Because there will only be one of you. So go show them what you are made of you rare beauty.

Number 7: In the worst storms of your life you find out who is really there for you. When you hit a rough patch in the road of life sit back and see who comes to your aid. Those you don’t help you, check up on you are not worth your time and energy. Those who do help you keep them close cause they will be your allies in whatever battles lie ahead.

Number 8: Not everything in life will go to plan and that’s okay. As the old saying goes there has to be rain to make a rainbow. You just got to learn how to dance in the rain.

Number 9: What’s meant to be will be you just got to ride the wave and have patience. This world has a plan for you. Just have faith in your instincts follow your heart and continue on your path to happily ever after.

And the last thing. Life’s too short make the most of it. Don’t waste it with toxic people and dealing with negative energy. Have fun, travel, turn your hobbies into something great, be with friends and people who bring out the best in you, love unconditionally, regret nothing and when your time comes you can say I done all that. Life is a journey not a race so live it at your own pace. So enjoy the ride.

Hope you found this article helpful and I hope you could find comfort in the fact you are not alone in this journey. And as always my beautiful people don’t change stay strange and I’ll see you very soon.

I Love Being A Geek Cause Geeks Are Cool

The definition of the word “Geek” is according to the Oxford dictionary. Is an

Doctor Who experience (April 2014)

unfashionable and socially inept person and it’s sub meaning is a knowledgeable and obsessive enthusiast. With this sub meaning in mind I think well isn’t everyone a quote on quote “Geek”. Because we all are enthusiasts in a certain field. Weather that be in cars, cosplay, films, TV, anime, manga. You get the point. Each of us however many billion people now I’ve lost count are all in one way or another a geek.

Me personally I class myself as a geek because I obsess over music, gaming, DC, Marvel, Doctor Who, Internet personalities. Again you get the point. I took my love of everything geek culture to the next level at college when I decided to do a radio programme on geek culture. Which was perfectly named The Geek Show. The show was one of the most popular on my college’s radio station. I even had a fan-base of listeners at the college that constantly tweeted me in the studio. At one point I was with my then boyfriend eating lunch in the college cafeteria and girl came up to us and asked if I was the host of The Geek Show. I then said I was and her face lit up and she told me how much she enjoyed tuning into the show each week and my song choices too. She then asked me for a hug and told me to keep up the amazing work with the show. This then motivated me even more to make “The Geek Show” bigger and better than before. I had a community behind me just by expressing my love of being a geek over the airwaves. Now that made doing the show so special for me.

One of many geek show selfie

The way a geek is represented in mainstream media is that of a person who wear smart clothing (not so much a suit and tie affair), wears glasses, carries a LOT of books and is very socially awkward. The geek in the show, film, game etc is always the target of bullies that pick on that individual for being different. Then usually the bullies get a taste of karma and the geek comes out on top.We geeks often call ourselves names like underdogs and outsiders. We all feel like no one understands us and we feel lonely. But the reality is that we are never truly alone in our undying love for whatever we geekgasm over. There is a whole community of people out there just like you who completely understand you. You just have to know where to find them.

The best place to meet people in the geek community is by going to conventions. And I have been to my fair share of conventions over the last 5 years. My first convention was London MCM Comic Con in October 2012.

My first Comic Con (October 2012) ❤

Since then it has become a birthday weekend tradition for me. As my birthday falls the week of Comic Con so that gives me the excuse to extend my birthday celebrations. But I haven’t just gone to MCM Comic Con. In March 2016 I attended the 57th Insomnia gaming festival in Birmingham and this July I went to London Film and Comic Con at London Olympia. Thing I love about conventions is that you feel a sense of belonging and a part of something huge. Take my work friend Harry we immediately bonded over our love of all things geek culture at work and we bumped into each other at London MCM Comic Con in October this year. He cosplayed as Tom Hollands iteration of everyone’s friendly neighbourhood hero Spider-man.

Now I love it when people cosplay especially if their costumes are handmade in every intricate detail it really shows your undying love for your favourite character. If you want to cosplay as a wise man once said JUST DO IT!!! And don’t let anyone stop you and dull your sparkle. Sure some people will judge you but the true people will appreciate and admire you for the effort you put into your cosplay. Yes I understand people have their own opinions. But conventions are a place where we all feel comfortable and free to be ourselves. And judging people and making them feel small is not painting a good picture for the geek community.

What I’m trying to say is. The world is already a twisted place to live in at this moment in time. With so many divides, restrictions and uncertainty. So we as a community need to break down the walls that divide us come together and collectively hold each other up through the tough times. And don’t be afraid to let your geek flag fly. Cause in the end of the day it makes you who you are. The things we love become a part of us, inspires us to do better and great things and allows us to make relationships with people just like us.

So as always you guys rock on like Donkey Kong. Don’t change stay strange and I’ll catch up with you guys soon.

Oh I Do Like To Be Beside The Seaside: Dunster Beach 2015 in review

Dunster beach in sunny Somerset is a favourite holiday destination for me and my family. My parents discovered Dunster beach when my mother was pregnant with yours truly (18 years ago) after a washout in their Butlins hotel room. Now Dunster beach is our home away from home.

The skies the limit
The skies the limit
Beautiful Dunster Beach

Ever since this discovery each year coming down to Dunster is a whole different adventure and experience. Here is how I think this years holiday went.

First of all, the chalet we stayed in was the same chalet we had stayed in the previous year called “Ducks Crossing”. The chalet was cosy but some days the weather was not kind to us so we had the warmth of a tiny heater. Sleeping in the chalet was amazing (as previous chalets we had stayed in required me to sleep on a very uncomfortable airbed in the kitchen) so I woke up feeling refreshed in the morning. But overall the chalet was well equipped and arranged for us to live in for the fortnight we were staying there.

Next, the facilities in the resort were average as our chalet didn’t have a shower in it we had to use the shower block close to our corresponding chalet. Some days I would come to the shower block and the previous user left the shower clean  how I would expect to find it but other times I would come in and there were traces of dirt, sand and even hair in the shower as well. This left me disgusted as it clearly states on a notice in the shower itself ” Leave this shower in the condition you would expect to find it by washing away any dirt, sand and hair for the next user thank you”. Yes thank you to the previous user who left the shower in such a state. Also another thing that had left me disappointed was the on site shop or should I say just café. The lack of goods and confectionary made my inner child cry as on previous visits (preferably when I was little) mum would give us each one pound to fulfil our sugar rushed dreams. Now those dreams taste so bittersweet.

But there are some good things that came out of the whole experience as there was plenty to do in the resort and touristy places outside the beach. Within the beach you could take a relaxing walk through the nature trail and feel one with nature perfect for any wildlife enthusiasts. Also the beach itself stretches for miles so plenty of space to let off some steam and relax. You could visit Dunster village a proper medieval village with a fantastic range of one of a kind shops and cosy eateries. There at the village you can go and explore Dunster castle the star attraction of Dunster village. On the topic of history for all steam train fanatics you can take a trip through the west Somerset railway and go back in time. Lastly the seaside town of Minehead has all the perks that a seaside town can offer fantastic eateries, arcades, gift shops and fantastic scenery. So loads to do so you will certainly not be bored out of your brain.

So to close I had a wonderful 2 weeks at Dunster beach I had all the comforts of home so I wasn’t too home sick. The sights, sounds and tastes of this holiday thrilled my senses and I created many happy memories and stories to tell relatives. friends and my boyfriend Jamie all about. So thank you Dunster for an incredible two weeks and see you next year.
